Life By Design Personal Growth ProgramPGP # I
(A 2-Day Workshop)
"Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker
will be sorry."
--Mark Twain
The above lines inspire us to live better lives. We understand that Twain was
referring to an honorable, respectable, and desirable life. But what does that
mean? Is that a life of wealth and luxury? Is that a life with a happy family
and loyal, loving friends? Is that a life of world-class accomplishments and
unmatched experiences? Maybe it's all of those things. Or is it?
The truth of the matter is that a desirable life isn't something that can be
described on the whole. It's not the same for everyone. Fortunately, we don't
all have the same tastes. Can you imagine how bland life would be if we all
thought and acted according to the same set of desires? Although there is a
common foundation beneath every life of significance, there is a unique design
that characterizes the life YOU most desire; one that is different from the
life of your spouse, children, friends, and co-workers. A custom life, so to
speak, uniquely designed for you.
The QUESTION is not: What does a desirable life look like?
People will try to qualify it, stating that things such as a respectable title,
high social status, the attention of the opposite sex, a big bank account, a
fast car, or a large estate make up such a life, the truth is that there really
isn't one answer. People don't have the same desires.
The real QUESTION is: What does a desirable life look like to YOU?
It's a question that most people could answer but very few do anything about.
Maybe it's because the answers don't seem attainable.
The truth is that for most people, things really aren't that bad. But then,
if you're not building the life you really desire, what are you building? You're
still building something aren't you? Maybe you've spent 20 years of your life
pursuing something that isn't entirely wrong, but isn't completely right either.
You're successful but not very happy. On the outside, your life seems in perfect
order but inside it's a frustrating, jumbled mess.
Or maybe you're just beginning your career and want to take the right steps
to a desirable future, but you're not sure how to determine what those steps
should be.
Or maybe you're relatively happy with your life, but there is still a constant
tugging at your heart telling you that something is missing, telling you something
more to life-and you have yet to discover what that missing "something"
is.
If you are not living the life you really desire, what is keeping you from "remodeling"
your life to better meet your desires?
Is it fear of failure or rejection that keeps you from building the life of
your dreams?
Is it lack of motivation?
Lack of time?
Lack of energy?
You know your reasons. and they are probably very real to you. But if I told
you that you are actually spending more time, exerting more energy, and facing
the prospect of greater failure by avoiding the life you truly desire than by
building it, would you want to exchange the tools of your current trade for
a construction belt?
I am not going to tell you that building the life of your dream is EASY. Construction
can be a sweaty job. But I will tell you that building the life, the future,
you truly desire is much easier than building a life that doesn't satisfy your
desires.
The good news is that no matter what your life looks and feels like right
now, it's never too early to begin building or too late to begin remodeling.
Construction involves taking the right steps and using the right tools.
Remember that the future has yet to happen. And the saying goes, YOU hold
the keys.
This workshop is based on the groundbreaking works of Todd Duncan "Life
by Design", and Barbara Sher's "Live the Life You Love." We here
at National Institute for Leadership Development (P) Ltd., would like to express
our gratitude for the use of their endeavor, insight and wisdom so that lives
touched by their words and experiences would truly flourish, and be healed and
blessed.
